Cali-warm-ia

It has been a rough week. I got the wicked cold on Sunday afternoon and it has taken me out until today. I put in a half-day in the office and then had to come home to take an hour nap. The biggest bummer is that it has been sunny and mid-40's all week. Normally, I would get out on the bike to enjoy the sun or go make some runs if there were overnight snow. No such luck. Thus, I must live vicariously through others.

This guy almost makes me glad I don't have his occupation. Until I see these tanlines:


My legs haven't seen sun since...well it's been a long time. I didn't realize that kEck was riding for CSC. I thought he had other things going until tax day!

Baseball season starts today!

Pitchers and catchers report today. Things will be interesting with Schill injured. Look forward to the season regardless.


In the meantime, watch the Tour of Cali.

I kind of feel bad, but it sounds more and more like he is guilty.

So I didn't get the funding I was hoping to get for 08-09.

The Pats didn't win.

Coincidentally, I am not too bummed about either. Not getting the former will mean I can focus more on my research. About the latter, at least my boys won the October Classic! In general, I was reminded why I really never liked watching the Super Bowl. I wish that I had watched Donnie Darko instead. Watch it; its a thinker...

Random thoughts

With plenty to think about, I find myself waking at 3AM with a wandering mind. Here are some of the thoughts:

Will I get funded for next year?

These are the deals that I think win championships.

I am glad my Uncle Joe is recovering well and almost on his way home.

I really miss the amount of snow at Alta, though Bridger is fun.

What are the Republicans thinking with their candidates?

What are the Democrats thinking with their candidates?

Will the Pats fall into a cursed state?

Why am I awake?

How come I never have any dreams like Tony Soprano's Test Dream?

That was my favorite episode of the Soprano's. Although, Pine Barrens was great too.

420 in Bozeman

We got back from CdA this afternoon and I ran the 2+ miles to the gym, lifted and then ran home. When I got home, I realized that the fronts of my legs were really cold. Then I saw my reflection and I had frost in my beard. I then looked at the thermometer and saw this:

1. See post below.

2. My favorite TV show of all time was Hardcastle & McCormick. This is probably because unlike MacGyver, The A-Team and Knight Rider it has not been made it to syndication.

3. I have exercised induced asthma. I have no doubt that this was caused by living in the pollution of the SL Valley. This pollution is the thing I miss the least since moving.

4. I am getting a PhD in applied mechanics (not snow science). However, my research is in the mechanics of snow.

5. If I could do anything, I would spend a day skiing with my dad. One day at Alta I saw an older gentleman skiing with his father. I realized how much I would love to do that given that my dad gave me a love for skiing.

Here and there

I spent the last weeks with a bit of unexpected travel. AJD and I spent the Christmas holiday in CdA where I got to ride with my father-outlaw when he was plowing the roads. It was pretty cool and it is amazing how everyone waved to us. I am not sure why cyclists don't wave to each other, but everyone waves to the plow!

The rest of the weekend I ate and if I went more than 20 minutes without putting something in my face, my sister-outlaw was sure to let me know about it. Of course, with my mother-outlaw's cooking it was not very difficult to find food items to eat.

The current cool thing to do in the blog world is state 5 things people do not generally know about yourself. The first I will write about was the highlight of my Christmas day--my "initiation" into "the Family." This involved a trip out to the field and shooting a bunch of guns. I even got "hicked" out for it:
